New traffic signal to light up this week

Traffic will soon be heeding to a new stop light at Broadway Avenue and 8th Street in Forest Lake. Joe Gustafson, a transportation engineer at Washington County, said the signal system should be operational as early as this Thursday, Dec. 8. Electrical crews were installing the new light poles last week.

Soccer boys ride win into playoffs

Rangers open sections Thursday at Coon Rapids The Forest Lake boys’ soccer team finished Suburban East Conference play with a resounding win at Hastings last Thursday. Junior Austin Rizzo and senior Cale Gaffy tallied two goals apiece in the 6-2 victory. Juniors Matthew Eiden and Matt Keith also scored as the Rangers improved to 3-11-2 on the season. Following a 2-0 defeat at White Bear Lake on Tuesday, the win also kept the Rangers from going winless in the conference and moved them into a tie for eighth place. Forest Lake earned the fifth seed in the seven-team Section 7AA field.

School studies staff demands

The ISD 831 administration is in the process of reviewing teacher staffing needs due to enrollment gains as the 2011-2012 school year opened on Tuesday. At the Thursday, Sept. 1 board meeting, parents of students in Grade 5 at Columbus Elementary lobbied for an additional teacher. With two sections of 35 and 35 students per class, the parents asked the board to consider moving to three sections which would match the class size for the students while in Grade 4
