FL girls nip Cretin-Derham Hall, 50-48

Forest Laked trailed Cretin-Derham Hall, 27-25 at the half, but rallied in the second half to capture a 50-48 victory over the Raiders in Suburban East Conference girl’s basketball action. The win improved Forest Lake to 11-9 overall and evened the club’s record in SEC play at 6-6. Bailey Norby scored 15 points to lead the Rangers while Sam Anderson dropped in 12 points. The Rangers survived a poor free throw shooting night. Forest Lake went 11-21 from the line but managed to pull out the victory.

Ranger boys net key ice win

Forest Lake trailed Cretin-Derham Hall, 2-0, after one period on Thursday night, but stormed back to claim a 6-4 win in Suburban East Conference boy’s hockey action. The Rangers exploded for five goals in the second period to take charge of the game. The Raiders cut the lead to 5-4 early in the final period before JT Jurisin scored at the 10:10 mark to give the Rangers the insurance they would need to protect the victory.

Hastings stops FL in key SEC wrestling contest

Forest Lake’s bid for a Suburban East Conference wrestling championship ran into a roadblock on Thursday night as second-ranked Hastings defended its home mat with a strong 40-23 victory over the Rangers. The seventh-ranked Forest Lake team came into the SEC contest with a perfect 8-0 record only to fall to the strong Hastings club.

Ranger boys can’t keep pace with Roseville cagers

Forest Lake’s Noah Davis pumped in 27 points but it wasn’t enough as Roseville soundly defeated the Rangers, 72-46 in a Suburban East Conference boy’s basketball contest Tuesday night. Roseville jumped out to a 37-17 lead at the intermission and continued the attack in the second half, outscoring the host Rangers, 35-29. Roseville improved to 14-3 with the win while Forest Lake slipped to 3-7 in SEC games and 6-10 overall

Hockey girls blanked by Cretin-Derham Hall, 3-0

Forest Lake and Cretin-Derham Hall skated to a scoreless first period on Tuesday night in a girl’s Suburban East Conference hockey game, but the Rangers failed to keep pace in the final two periods. Cretin-Derham Hall tallied one goal in the second period and added two in the final period to claim a 3-0 victory. Forest Lake managed just 15 shots on goal in the losing effort.

Roseville cagers defeat FL girls, 54-39

Roseville raced to a 33-16 lead at halftime and never looked back as the Raiders handed the Forest Lake Rangers a 54-39 defeat in Suburban East Conference girl’s basketball game Tuesday night. Forest Lake outscored Roseville, 23-21 in the second half, but the contest was all but over in the first half. No Ranger player was able to score in double figures.

Kauls gets last laugh in FL farewell

Former Ranger coaches Mounds View to comeback win Clint Riese Sports Editor Forest Lake dropped two Suburban East Conference basketball games last week, including one to Mounds View in the final visit from longtime Mustang coach Ziggy Kauls, a 1959 Forest Lake graduate who will retire after this season. It appeared for much of last Tuesday’s contest that Kauls would leave his former home disappointed, as the Rangers led for most of the contest. A 13-2 run late in the first half put Forest Lake ahead 29-18. Dusty Boyer scored seven points during the spree and Tyler Rosenberger added six free throws. Mounds View closed the half with five straight points, and hit a three-pointer to open the second half. Ben Rush and Brett Burkhardt heated up from beyond the arc and the Mustangs used three-pointers to narrow the gap.

FL debuts well at Laker Invite

Swimmers take second at seven-team meet Forest Lake finished just nine points out of first place in its first appearance at the Minneapolis South Laker Invite on Saturday. The Rangers took second place to Chaska at the seven-team swim meet. Two team members earned second-place finishes: junior Zach Burger scored 139.25 points in the diving competition and senior Nate Merrier finished the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.43. The 100 breaststroke was also one of four events where Forest Lake earned points from three participants. Merrier was joined by Evan Woehl (fourth, 1:09.38) and Michael Palo (10th, 1:12.73) in that event

Police monitor Century after threats; one juvenile arrested

Police were present as a precautionary measure as the school day began at Century Junior High today, Jan. 13. Forest Lake Schools officials notified the Forest Lake Police Department on Thursday of threats posted on Facebook by two Century students. According to a statement released by Forest Lake Schools Communications Coordinator Ross Bennett, a group of students had made “clear threats indicating the intent of some type of violent retaliation toward four individuals who work at Century’s central office.” The subsequent police investigation led to the arrest of one juvenile male late Thursday night. He was transported to the Washington County Juvenile holding facility.  The second student investigated was not arrested at this time. On Thursday afternoon, three other Century students were suspended for plotting the initiation of a disruptive activity.
