Forest Lake picked up its second win in three games during the Region 1C town ball tournament in Hinckley Thursday night. The 10-3 victory over Anoka eliminated the Bucs and put the Brewers two wins away from a state bid. Mike Schultz led the charge on offense with three hits and four RBI, while Mike Swenson gave up just one unearned run in five innings to pick up the win. Softball advances to state title game; baseball on to state Thursday was a good day to be a Ranger fan. The Forest Lake softball team won twice at state to reach Friday’s championship game. Rangers top Tigers, advance to baseball Final Four

The top-seeded Ranger baseball team beat Princeton 8-3 at home Friday afternoon to advance to the Section 7AAA Final Four, which starts next Tuesday in Princeton. Evan Johnson allowed three runs over six innings. At the plate, he ripped three doubles. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Forest Lake answered with four runs in the second and two more in the third.

Tennis team finds groove as sectionals draw near

The Forest Lake tennis team responded to its first conference loss April 29 with four straight dual-meet victories in as many days last week. A makeup match at Woodbury on Wednesday was sandwiched between regularly scheduled contests against Centennial, Hastings and East Ridge. First baby of the year

Jessie Jae Jelinek became the first baby of the year at Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming when she arrived at 10:11 p.m. Jan. 1, 2011, weighing 5 pounds, 14 ounces. As a result of her First New Year’s Baby status, Jessie and her parents Patty and James Jelinek of Forest Lake received two baskets of gifts donated by local merchants, Fairview and the Fairview Lakes Auxiliary.
