Traffic stop by FLPD leads to drug arrests

Jennifer Mevissen Staff Writer A traffic stop by the Forest Lake Police Department at 12:16 p.m. on Thursday at W. Broadway Avenue and I-35 resulted in two arrests for drugs. According to Sgt. Mark Richert, a random check of the license plate by an officer revealed a warrant out for the arrest of the vehicle’s owner. Five and a half grams of methamphetamine was found in the search, he said, noting both the driver and passenger were arrested.

Bridge work resumed this week after state shutdown

After a 20 day state government shutdown, construction of the Broadway Avenue bridge over 1-35 in Forest Lake resumed this week. The remainder of the footing, four crash barrier sections, and two columns were all constructed.

The Forest Lake Economic Development Authority (EDA) and Broadway Avenue business owners will erect this billboard for northbound I-35 traffic at the freeway split next week. Forest Lake City Council member and EDA Chair Jackie McNamara said the billboard will help direct motorists into Forest Lake during Broadway Avenue construction. The EDA spent  $10,000 for the project and business owners provided a match. The billboard will be up through November.
